AARP Inc. is an acronym, for what was formerly American Association for Retired Persons, is a US based interest group. This group was founded by Ethel Percy Andrus and. Leonard Davis in 1958. Andrus is a retired educator from California, Leonard Davis became the founder of Colonial Penn Group of insurance companies. There were enough accusations about the association with Davis to necessitate a Senate hearing which did not find enough evidence for any action. The organization changed its name to “AARP” in 1999 and the need for its members to be retired was also discontinued.
Presently its members need to be 50 years of age or more. The group is a 501c4 nonprofit organization whose aim is to improve the quality life of elderly people. There are several nonprofit organizations and AARP providers under the group like AARP Foundation, AARP Experience Corps, AARP Institute, AARP Service Inc, AARP Financial Services Corporation and AARP Insurance Plan. All these organizations look after different aspects of life that need to be cared to as a human being grows old. They are great for addressing issues of older Americans through various means like lobbying both at state and federal government levels as permitted to 501(c)(4) organizations.
AARP Foundation is a nonprofit charity organization and helps those over 50 who are both economically and socially disadvantaged. Their activities are directed to provide security, elimination of hunger in the seniors and protection to the needy.
